We all have them… habits that we wish we didn’t have.
Sometimes they become so ingrained we don’t even notice we’re doing them.
We all want to be healthy, strong, energized and happy and we may wonder why so many of us have habits that take us in an opposite direction.
Whatever habit you’re trying to break, or somehow you haven’t yet found the key to success with…consider this:
Losing a habit requires change. And change is not always easy.
But the easiest way to change one of your habits (good or bad) is by replacing it with another habit.
This technique of getting more “good stuff” into your life is by ‘Crowding Out’ the bad.
What does this mean?
Well, you take the idea of eating healthier, and cutting out the junk… In this scenario, you would start crowding out the bad stuff, aka junk food, by adding a lot of good foods.
For example, if you have a tendency to eat doughnuts in order to stave off the sugar cravings mid-afternoon, then keep good stuff (nuts, protein bars etc) in your desk drawers or fridge.
When you get the craving to munch on that delicious doughnut, instead munch on those equally delicious but healthier treats.
Crowd out the bad with good.
Give your brain something new to munch on. Don’t just remove the bad. Replace it with something awesome. So that your brain doesn’t miss a thing.
One step at a time, done over time, leads to powerful changes in your life. Substituting healthy habits for unhealthy ones rewards you with more stamina, better quality of life – and a healthier you!
Once you get the ball rolling, you will soon start to look better, feel better and have more energy and vitality. Personal motivation is instantly increased which in turn makes it easier to continue to incorporate more healthy habits into your routine.
Building slowly over time will help you create a new Lifestyle – in a relatively painless way – that you will be able to stick with.
Remember, it’s about progress, not perfection. Each small step you take towards a healthier habit is a victory and should be celebrated. As you continue to crowd out the bad habits with positive ones, you’ll find yourself naturally gravitating towards a healthier, happier you without feeling deprived or overwhelmed.
Stay committed, be patient with yourself, and watch as these small changes lead to significant, lasting improvements in your overall well-being.
